Description

Internationally bestselling author and award-winning Stanford University educator Tina Seelig has taught creativity to the best and brightest students at Stanford and to business leaders around the world. With inGenius she expertly decodes creativity, revealing an approach that everyone can use to enhance their own creative genius.

Imaginative. Innovative. Ingenious. These words describe the visionaries we all respect and admire. And they can describe you, too. Contrary to common belief, creativity is not a gift some of us are born with. It is a skill that all of us can learn.

Creativity is a habit you learn, not something you’re born with.

In today’s world, innovation and creative problem solving are more important than ever to succeed. For many of us, however, this process is a mystery. Whether we are attempting to generate fresh ideas or struggling with problems with no solutions in sight, the innovative spark is out of reach. The book IINGENIUS aims to guide readers on a journey to enhance their creative abilities and tap into their full creative potential.

inGenius offers a revolutionary new model, the Innovation Engine, which explains how creativity is generated on the inside and how it is influenced by the outside world. Describing the variables that work together to catalyze or inhibit our creative abilities, Seelig provides a set of tools we can each use right away to radically enhance our own ingenuity as well as that of our colleagues, teams, organizations, and communities.

Creativity: Either you’ve got it or you don’t, right? Well, although we tend to see artists, innovators and entrepreneurs as a different breed, creativity is actually not something you’re born with. If you don’t consider yourself creative, perhaps your creative spirit simply hasn’t been fostered!

Seelig explores various aspects of creativity, providing practical insights and exercises to foster innovation and problem-solving skills. The book offers a combination of theories, real-life examples, and interactive exercises to engage readers in the creative process.

Luckily, it’s never too late. By putting some new thinking habits in place, you can nurture the creativity you never knew you had. So what are these habits?

The first is to combine seemingly unrelated ideas and create a surprising result. Say you combine an alarm clock and vocabulary flash cards. The result could be an alarm clock that switches off when you answer a set of questions. It may sound like a pretty useless invention, but this kind of product could be just the solution for people who want to learn a new language, but find it hard to motivate themselves to do it.

You can also kindle your creativity by reframing the problems you face. Because we often see things from a limited perspective, we tend to create solutions to problems based on what we already know, or usually think. By actively taking a step outside these constraints, you’ll be able to grasp truly innovative solutions.

One way to do this is by removing something from its usual context. For example, you might think of an artificial leg as a functional product, a tool to aid those with disabilities. But what if you took it out of a medical context, and into the context of fashion instead?

The highly successful company Bespoke did just this, by creating artificial limbs that weren’t just medical aids, but also fashion accessories. By reframing artificial limbs, they discovered the possibility of producing them in a way that was aesthetically pleasing and also made their wearers feel more comfortable!

The award-winning Stanford University educator Tina Seelig has worked with some of the business world’s best and brightest, who are now among the decision-makers at companies such as Google, Genentech, IBM, and Cisco. In inGenius she expertly demystifies creativity, offering a set of tools and guidelines that anyone can use. A fantastic resource for everyone wanting to achieve their ambitions, and for readers of Jason Fried’s Rework, and Seth Godin’s Poke the Box.

Seelig’s groundbreaking work reveals that creativity is an endless renewable resource we can tap into at any time. It is as natural as breathing, and just as necessary for leading a successful and fulfilling life.

Hence, It is a detailed map to the territory of creativity and innovation in today’s high tech world. “inGenius : A Crash Course On Creativity” is a resource that aims to inspire individuals from various fields, including business, education, and the arts, to unlock their creative potential and approach challenges with fresh perspectives. It encourages readers to embrace creativity as a vital tool in navigating the complexities of today’s world and finding innovative solutions.
